"Where your talents and the needs of the world cross, there lies your vocation."

WELCOME

Decisions about a career, job, school, college major, or technical field of study are among life's greatest challenges.  So many choices.  How do I know which one is best for me?  Welcome to Major Quest, a company providing career assessment services to young adults; adult career changers are also welcome!

My interest in career decision-making probably began when I changed my major for the third time as a senior in college. At the beginning of my senior year, I suddenly realized that I had no idea what I really wanted to do in life. In desperation, I went to the university counseling office. I took the Strong Interest Inventory. It suggested what eventually would become my life’s work, counseling.

After 32 years in the field of education, I wish I could say it has gotten easier for young adults to find direction.  Given so many choices and the effects of the global economy, I actually think it has gotten harder. What is being asked of young adults verges on the impossible. Determining the right career requires a thorough knowledge of one's personality and then using that knowledge to choose between thousands of possibilities.  The problem arises because that personality is just emerging into consciousness between ages 12 – 20, and many of those career choices are unknown to teenagers.

It is my goal to make this process clearer and to move each client along the decision-making continuum. Career development experts agree that effective decisions are based on three aspects of personality: values, interests, and abilities. Career testing allows us to identify these factors by age 16, about the junior year of high school.

I have selected three of the most highly respected and proven assessment measures used to identify a person’s talents and for designing a future plan. A career decision is not an event; it is a process that occurs over time. However, after completing the Major Quest Comprehensive Assessment Package, a young adult will have a much clearer understanding of his or her unique gifts, and he or she will understand the next steps on their career path.
